The opening of the new Chapter in Cyprus, which is a joint venture between the European Centre for Arbitration and Mediation based in Strasbourg and the School of Law of UCLan Cyprus, was celebrated on 16 June 2017 by an official opening – before a couple of hundred people – at the Hilton Nicosia Hotel.
The Court and the Main Points of its Arbitration Rules were presented by the President of the European Court of Arbitration, Mauro Rubino-Sammartano.
The Attorney General, Mr. Costas Clerides, made a very determined intervention in favor of arbitration, followed by the President of the Judges’ Association also representing the President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus.
Yiannos Georgiades, Chairman of the Chapter, presented the Chapter and its programs.
The Executive Committee of the Chapter consists also of Prof. Stéphanie Leulhé Shaelou, Judge George Arestis, former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union and before Chairman of the Supreme Court of Cyprus, Anthony Ashiotis, Nevi Agapiou and Despina Christiofi. Stephanie Georgiadou is a very strong supporter of the Chapter.
