The Court adopted as default the rule to appoint a sole arbitrator mainly to reduce costs and fees of the Arbitral Tribunal for two third (66%).
Furthermore, the proceedings may be faster and avoid the frequent disputes as to the neutrality of the party-appointed arbitrators.
A sole Arbitrator is usually more efficient, more straight forward without the need of the fight between party-appointed arbitrators.
On the top of that, the European Court of Arbitration fees and administrative dues’ schedule is very reasonable and aims at finding a fair balance between quality and cost, as it may be found out in barème des honoraires et des coûts de la CEA.
