The Cyprus Judges Association invited the Cyprus Chapter of the European Court of Arbitration (CEAM) to a Conference on ‘Arbitration, Mediation and the Judiciary’, which was held on Thursday, 8 February 2018, at the Supreme Court of Cyprus in Nicosia. Cypriot Judges had the opportunity to hear Mr. Mauro Rubino-Sammartano, the President of the European Court of Arbitration, analyse the benefits of Arbitration in general, and for Cyprus in particular. Mr. Rubino-Sammartano’s lecture was followed by a lecture by the Honourable Judge George Arestis (retired) who proceeded to critically analyse the current legal framework in Cyprus in relation to Arbitration. Constructive discussion involving Judges who attended the event ensued. The two lectures by the distinguished speakers were preceded by a short welcome address by the Honourable Judge Nicholas Santis, District Court President and President of the Judges Association and Professor Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Head of the School of Law, UCLan Cyprus and Executive Committee Member of the Cyprus Chapter of the European Court of Arbitration.
